Laura A. Bradford, CPA

Laura Bradford has more than 30 years experience in taxation and management consulting, and 20 years experience in profit, non-profit and governmental audits. She has been with Burkey & Cox since 2000.

“I have worked in all areas of the firm – accounting, auditing, business consulting, business tax and individual tax. And I have developed a specialization in estate planning and tax,” said Laura.

In her spare time Laura enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

Sarah Cox, EA

Sarah Cox joined the firm in 2016. She brings 11 years of experience to her position. Previously she worked as a staff accountant for a local manufacturing company, before successfully managing her own business for eight years.

At the firm she manages the general office functions, as well as client and staff relations on a daily basis. “I am happy to be part of a firm that helps businesses in our community be more efficient and profitable,” said Sarah.

When she isn’t working, Sarah enjoys exercising and taking pleasure in the great outdoors with her family and three dogs.

Janette Henriquez, CPA

Janette Henriquez joined the firm in 2010 as an Audit Manager. She has been working in the accounting profession since 2005.

While studying at California State University Northridge (CSUN), Janette interned in the Internal Audit Department, directly assisting the Internal Auditor. After graduation, she began working at Holthouse Carlin Van Trigt (HCVT) who specialize in auditing employee benefit plans and low-income housing tax-credit clients. She worked her way up to Supervising Senior.

At Burkey & Cox, Janette performs a wide range of financial services including auditis, reviews and compilations. She and her team specialize in auditing non-profit organizations and local government entities, including school districts and other special districts. They also specialize in performing reviews of construction contractors and homeowners’ associations.

In her spare time, Janette, who is a Southern California native, enjoys traveling to new and exciting places and experiencing different cultures and cuisine.

Mayank Madhavani, CPA MBA

Mayank Madhavani is a CPA at Burkey and Cox with 11 plus years of experience in tax. Mayank specializes in LLC/business tax returns and is passionate about helping people.

At the office, Mayank strives to:

Outside the office, Mayank loves to:

Brenda Cohen

Brenda Cohen joined Burkey & Cox in 2014. To her position she brings a wealth of accounting experience. Previously she was Senior Corporate Accountant for ELS Language Centers in Culver City, California, and Assistant Controller for Wood Knapp Video Distribution in Los Angeles. For five years, she was also the Accounting Manager for Jane Fonda Workout in Beverly Hills.

At the firm, her responsibilites include meeting with clients and handling “hands-on” their accounting and bookkeeping needs, such as banking, paying bills, preparing schedules, reporting, filing, inputing/reviewing data entry, making necessary adjustments, recording standard/recurring journal entries, and preparation of financial statements. Brenda also holds several QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certifications.

What she enjoys most about her position is “working with the firm’s variety of clients and solving mind-stimulating challenges.” She is a conscientious worker, who keenly respects the privacy of the client’s financial information.

When she isn’t working, Brenda, who is from Belleville, Illinois, enjoys relaxing with an enjoyable meal, watching her favorite TV programs, and spending time with family.

Raymond Langley, EA

Ray Langley has worked with the firm since 2012, when he was still a sophomore in high school with a propensity toward numbers. Today, he is a senior staff accountant and prepares financial statements and tax returns. He also assists the firm’s clients with their QuickBooks, as he is Certified as a ProAdvisor.

In his spare time, Raymond likes working on cars. He is currently building a 1971 Super Beetle, which is precisely three inches longer than a regular Beetle and features MacPherson strut suspension.

Cheryl Prescott

Cheryl Prescott has been in the accounting profession for more than 25 years. She joined Burkey & Cox in 1989. Cheryl’s vast experience includes accounting, payroll, plus business and personal income tax preparation.

A resident of Ridgecrest, California, since 1983, Cheryl says she enjoys the relationship she has acquired over the years with the firm’s clients. “I love working with people,” she admits.

Outside the office, Cheryl enjoys photography, cooking gourmet dinners, and spending time with her family and friends.

Terrie Ruiz

Since 1993 Terrie Ruiz has been in the accounting profession. She has been with Burkey & Cox since 2010.

Terrie is married and has seven children. She enjoys spending time with her family.

Kim Redding, Payroll Coordinator

Kim Redding started her accounting career in 2002 when she joined the firm.

Today she processes all live payrolls for clients, quarterly payroll returns, sales tax returns, workers’ compensation reports and audits. She also processes electronic payroll deposits and estimated tax payments for clients.

Kim is a California native. Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, kids and animals, as well as going to the movies.

Marissa Kingford, Client Services Coordinator

Marissa Kingford joined Burkey & Cox in a new position in 2020. In her new role as the Client Service Coordinator, Marissa is every clients’ point of contact for generalized questions and concerns. Additionally, she manages employees’ every-day tasks and keeps track of workflow, as well as handles billing and new client onboarding.

Marissa graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree. After college, she moved back to her native California with her husband, where they enjoy life in the mountains of Tehachapi.

Victoria Gehring, Admin. Assistant

Victoria Gehring has been in the accounting profession and with the firm since 1999. She was the Administrative Assistant to partner Scott Evans, CPA, CFP and has recently transitioned to assist Sarah Cox, EA and Raymond Langley, EA.

In addition to working closely with the firm’s preparers Victoria prides herself on the quality of work and care for clients. She fields calls, schedules appointments, assembles clients’ tax returns and handles day-to-day activities of the busy office – from ordering supplies, typing and filing – to drafting responses to government notices, preparing dissolution and informational filings.

Victoria and her husband are native Californians with two children who keep the couple on their toes, they love and thank God for this adventure. The family enjoys spending time together, going to the park, playing games and reading.

Charma Leonard, Admin. Assistant

Charma Leonard joined Burkey & Cox in 2014. She is the Administrative Assistant to partner Laura Bradford, CPA.

With a solid background in customer service, in banking and retail, she provides administrative assistance by fielding all emails and phone calls directly to the partner. Charma also manages Laura’s appointments and assists with correspondence with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Franchise Tax Board (FTB). Daily activities include answering the telephone, filing, faxing, assisting clients and maintaining the lobby.

Originally from the Philippines, but raised in Southern California, Charma enjoys spending time with family, outdoor activities, trying new foods, and crafting.

Joani Seal, Admin. Assistant

Joani Seal joined the firm in 2014. She handles the phones, schedules appointments, organizes tax returns and works closely with Cheryl Prescott.

Joani says she enjoys working with the staff and greeting the firm’s clients.

She is the recipient of the prestigious Harris Fellow Award from the China Lake Rotary Club for her contributions to the organization.

Outside the office, Joani enjoys reading a good book and watching NASCAR races.

Bobbie Simmons, Admin. Assistant

Bobbie has been with the firm since 1988. She is the Administrative Assistant to Mayank Madhavani, CPA and Sarah Cox, EA.

Bobbie has more than 32 years’ experience at Burkey Cox Evans & Bradford. At the firm, her primary duties include assembling/reviewing tax returns, financials, appointments, fielding phone calls from clients who need assistance and transferring them to the appropriate staff members. She assists with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Franchise Tax Board (FTB) correspondence. She also had the distinct pleasure of working with Gary W. Cox, CPA, one of the firm’s founders.

“For seven years, I was Gary Cox’s administrative assistant before his retirement,” said Bobbie. “Gary gave me a lot of insight into the accounting profession and it was always a pleasure working with him.”

Originally from North Dakota, but has lived in the Antelope Valley for over 60 years. Bobbie enjoys spending her spare time with her grandchildren, shopping or sitting on her porch in the early morning with a hot cup of coffee and a good book in-hand.
